I’m doing an informal survey of all the jails. I once was told we are one of the only jails where our Program staff were not on the PERA Corrections retirement plan. Our Program staff are on the PERA Basic retirement plan. So, I would like to send out a few questions to all the jails and see what everyone is on.
1. What retirement plan are your Program staff in? 2. Are your Program staff also correction officers? 3. Which union represents your Program staff? 4. Are your Program staff under the retire at 55 retirement plans?
I appreciate any input I can get from all of you Programmers out there!

Crow Wing programmers are in the correctional plan. I was hired from the outside so never worked as a correctional officer, but everyone else in programs has been a CO. Our programmers are part of LELS Union. Being I am the Sergeant I am in the Sergeant's Teamsters Union.
Thanks!

1. CO PERA plan 2. Yes, Sgt & programmers cover posts in the jail when needed. 3. We dropped all unions and started a association with our deputies.
Eligibility The minimum age to draw a benefit is 55 for the General Plan, and 50 for Correctional and Police & Fire plans, however, drawing early will reduce your benefit. The normal retirement age is 66 (65 if you were hired prior to July 1, 1989) for the General plan, or 55 for both Correctional and Police & Fire.
