Hello Everyone,
I am looking to get some input on Social workers within your jails. I currently am the RAP coordinator with Clay County and my admin is looking at asking the county for a social worker. I am looking to gather information as to what Social workers do differently than what I do. Specifically, I am looking for information on which counties have social workers, when did they start in your facility, what are their current job duties and can I get their contact information.
Thank you!

Here in Hubbard we do not have one solely in the jail. But our social services right above us in the same building so basically when we need them they are close by.

Hi - I am the jail social worker for Blue Earth County, I started with Sheriff's Office in March 2020. I do the coordination for chemical use assessments, direct access to treatment, release planning, applying for county benefits/insurance, make appointments for individuals being released, I monitor/gather information for Rule 20's and civil commitments. I will meet with individuals while in jail, regardless of county they are from. I do not do any formal screening/assessments or formal release plan. Once released, individuals can contact me, but I don't provide on-going services.

What is the RESET Program.docx (21.44 KB)I am the Reset Jail Social Worker in Beltrami County. I started this program in June 2021. I have attached a description of what the Reset Program is. But I do so much more too. Everyday is different. Feel free to email or call with any questions, I’d be happy to help. I’m still learning exactly what my job is. It’s a trial-and-error type of job as nobody has ever done this in Beltrami. So I am doing my best. 😊 Amanda Sachau Reset Social Worker | Beltrami County Health & Human Services | Beltrami County Adult Corrections 626 Minnesota Ave NW Bemidji, MN 56601 Jail office:218-333-8163 | Work cell: 218-398-1305 Amanda.Sachau@co.beltrami.mn.us I am the RAP Coordinator at Sherburne County Jail and we recently hired Social Workers about a year ago. However, we found their duties were very overlapping to mine and they have been re-named “Jail Therapist.” They conduct group and individual therapy in the jail. Ours have the licensures to do so but many “social workers” may not have that background. The theory was to have the social workers work with out very vulnerable or incredibly mentally ill. The ones who are unlikely to be able to follow a RAP Plan or unlikely live independently in the community (board & lodge, group homes, etc). Hope that helps, let me know if you have questions. Staci
I am the jail social worker for McLeod County. I know, I biased, but I think this program has been a great resource for the jail and our inmates! Happy to chat more and share any information with anyone!
Thanks!

I am the jail social worker for Todd County, if you would like to speak further my contact information is below.
Thanks

We are lucky enough to have 2 in Olmsted. We could use more. They work with diverting clients out of jail to mental health facilities, MI commitments, 72 hours holds for mentally ill detainees, helping get them insurance among many other things. They are definitely worth it when you think about the money saved to the community by removing (or trying to) mentally ill detainees from the cycle of incarceration.

I am the social worker that works out of the Otter Tail County jail. I try to meet with all individuals that come into our jail no matter what county they are from. I have a basic screening tool I use to then connect them to potential needed resources. If they are an OTC resident, I am able to complete their chemical use assessments while they are here if requested and then set up coordination for treatment. If they are from another county, I will coordinate them getting assessed through an outside agency via zoom while they are here. Applications they complete with me are often for medical assistance, combined apps, housing assistance, salvation army - to get a bus pass typically, treatment court, MnCHOICES and mental health referrals. We are just getting started doing Officer Informed Care Coordination as well where short term case management (60 days - twice a year) can be provided for them when they leave if they do not already have case management that they are working with. Let me know if you have other questions!

Hello,
I am the jail social worker for Winona County, I started in Sept. of 2021 my position was created to enhance in-jail behavioral health/chemical dependency for continuation of treatment in the community, thereby to increase public safety. It is a grant funded program that is designed to work with individuals that have high-risk status and have mental health concerns in the jail. Over the course of the intake process I complete screenings with inmates reviewing their high-risk status, mental health concerns, and substance use concerns. Based on the screeners and an individual's willingness to wanting to establish services lets me know the route to take with them. I take the work load off of staff to see who is eligible for other services and reaching out to different providers, treatment centers, and contacting other facilities that are inmates are being housed at due to the construction of the jail. So like Blue Earth County I also do the coordination for chemical use assessments, direct access to treatment, release planning, applying for county benefits/insurance (whether that is directing them to the behavior health fund worker or having them sign ROI's to have their insurance verified and give to the providers competing their chemical use assessments), make appointments for individuals being released for mental health services, coordination with forensics and jail staff with civil commitments. I will meet with individuals while in jail, regardless of county they are from. Once released, individuals can contact me, I do provide on-going services for inmates that qualify for the grant funded program up to 60 days post release until a hand off is able to be provided for the individual to transition working with a community connector, ARHMS worker, case manager, ect. As Winona's jail social worker, I also have a license in drug and alcohol counseling and can complete professional statements of need for those struggling with substance use and working on trying to get into group residential housing.

Hi! In Hennepin we have a team of five social workers who are integrated in the jail. They have full access, meaning they don't have to be escorted. They are doing initial paperwork for SUD's. They are not doing the SUD, just arranging for it. They will also help me with County assisted resources when inmates ask for help.

I am a Re-Entry Coordinator/Jail Social Worker in Crow Wing County. The Comprehensive Re-Entry team started in June of 2018 with two social workers. We meet with every individual that comes in on a Crow Wing County charge that will be attending arraignment court. We complete a screening with them that allows us to gather some demographic information, as well as assess their mental health and chemical health needs. We then will connect them to resources that are appropriate for their needs, if the individual is willing. We can help with treatment coordination and mental health service coordination, as well as offer them some resources for housing and to get their driver's license back.
My contact information is below:
