When a person in custody initially enters the jail, what is the process for inventorying property? Does anyone utilize a photograph of all the property laid out to have verification of the specific items the person in custody comes in with?

Mower County currently inventories the items on in the jail management system, prints a report and has the inmate sign at booking and at the time of release.

In Anoka we log it into our JMS System (pci). It has a drop down menu but there is a way to choose other and get more descriptive. Inventory sheet is printed off and the inmate signs. There are video cameras in the area but won't do us any good if past the video retention time. We do not photograph anything.
For Scott County we do an initial inventory at intake. During that inventory we are mostly checking for contraband, cash amounts, and annotating things such as broken cell phones screens or if they come in with an ID, wallet, or car keys. Then when the inmate is booked we will more thoroughly go through each item in front of the inmate. Once that process is done we will place all the smaller items, mostly non-clothing items, into a bag and seal it. From there if the inmate wants to release their property they need to release the entire bag. We do not photograph anything. But we do have a camera that is close that can get a fairly good view of the intake property if a question ever comes up.
We here in McLeod have a camera above the desk that shows all the items they come in with, we also go through the property with the inmate and have them sign for it.

In Becker we do not photograph any property. It is all logged into the JMS (Zuercher) an inventory list is printed and the inmate signs for it. There are cameras in booking, but the video quality and retention can be problems to identifying specific items.
