Mower County is looking to find ways to increase recreational opportunities. Currently we have a body weight gym in the units which consists of a pull up bar, sit up bench, dip bar, box jump, leg raise, and push up bars. We have basketball goals in each unit as well, but due to a prior incident before coming on board it is no longer offered. I have some ideas about things I would like to be able to do but I am also looking for other ideas.
My current big idea:
Place a TV with DVD/Streaming Capability in the Gyms and provide workout DVDS/Classes. Inmates could request a workout series and officers would assist with set up.
Concerns:
SWANK LICENSING and other legalities. I've asked around and can't get a definitive answer on whether you need on or not for this type of setting.
Content Clothing/Lack there of... Does this raise issues or is this a concern in other facilities.
We are small jail with just one programmer so any offering would either be facilitated by myself, staff or volunteers. I am all ears about all any any activities you may offer and how you facilitate them. Any info is good info. Thank You.
