Question to those facilities who have staff hand out OTC medications for inmates. Is there a limit to how many packets of ibuprofen or acetaminophen packets they get per week when they are indigent? Do you limit the amount of packets to those who have funds to pay for them?
Thank you,
Kim Neuman Program Coordinator McLeod County Jail Glencoe, MN 55336 320-864-1347

We do not limit. We still charge there account so they will go negative. Once they reach a negative balance of 200.00 we send it to collections.

Kanabec - We buy meds in bulk bottles and have no limit except what is allowed by our medical staff. All inmates get charged for otc whether indigent or not, then if they get money in 50% of their medical debt gets paid.

We limit the number per med pass but not per week. We do not charge for OTC medications for any inmate.

Stearns has medical staff passing out medications. All inmates are required to fill out a medical over the counter slips in advance of each med pass, to get the OTC medication. All inmates are required to take the medications in fount or the med tech, no inmates are allowed to keep pills of any kind in their cells.
Anoka, inmates have to purchase off the med cart, limits are set by medical . If they are indigent their accounts just go in the negative.

There is not a “limit” as far as if they have funds or not but if inmates are taking too many they can be restricted and encouraged to kyte medical if they are having a medical issue. If they are indigent their accounts go negative.

We distribute OTC and limit is based on what policy is from our medical staff. They are charged, and if they are indigent their account goes further into debt.
