Who is allowing volunteers back into their Programs departments? If so with what type of perimeters or procedures? We currently are not allowing any outside visitors into our jail. We have had great success with keeping COVID-19 in control in our facility, We are thinking by later Fall. I'm in the process of looking over our volunteer application. I'm wondering if any one has added a COVID-19 sections to ask about if they have been vaccinated and/or have COVID-19.
Also, I have been told that some have a "No Hostage" section in their application. Does any one have such a section in their application and what does it look like?
At St. Louis County we are busy doing many outside agencies running, but the good news is we are safe and working as a team to stay that way! We hope all of you are also safe and moving towards whatever normal may look like. On a side note that would make a great topic for a Spring conference some year "The New Normal in Jail Programs".

In Anoka we are hold our GED class in person. The other couple that we have going on are virtual. We need to hold an orientation for our volunteers so this is going to be our first step.
We do have a "Volunteer Waiver" form that we go over in our orientation. Our Commander brought it back from a conference a few years ago. I have attached it Volunteer Waiver.docx (13.92 KB) Please reach out if it you can't access it.

Freeborn County is allowing volunteers back provided that they have been fully vaccinated for at least 2 weeks prior to coming in. They must be willing to provide documentation of full vaccination. Upon entering the Government Center, they do a COVID screening which includes questions and a temp. check before coming down to the jail.

Itasca has been in person for a couple months now. Below is what is expected of volunteers when they arrive -
1. Volunteers will have their temperature taken, and answer the COVID screening questions. If a "yes" answer to any of the questions, no matter how minor, they aren't allowed in. 2. Church/Meetings will run 1 cell at a time, no co-mingling cells. But, allotted time for a program will be cut in half to accommodate more than one cell of inmates to attend. 3. Program area will be sanitized in between cells entering. 4. 10 people total in the program area at a time, including volunteers. 5. Inmates and volunteers will be socially distanced as much as possible while in the program room. (accomplished by spreading chairs out) 6. Volunteers will not have physical contact with inmates, i.e. hand shaking, holding hands to pray, placing hand on shoulder, etc. 7. Volunteers will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the secured perimeter of the jail. (this has since changed with the mask mandate being lifted)
This has worked well, and have had zero (knock on wood) issues. A handful of my volunteers did not want to wear masks, so they weren't allowed in, which they understood. My volunteers and inmates have been EXTREMEMLY thankful to be in person versus ZOOM. With the exception of my handful of volunteers that didn't want to wear masks, I haven't had any complaints about following what is expected.

Rice County is still locked down for programming. We make up the difference by offering zoom classes and You Tube videos. Clergy and government employees (Social Services, medical, psychology, etc...) are allowed in with proper screening, PPE and social distancing protocols.

We are just getting back into in-person. We are not requiring proof of vaccination but will require the volunteers be masked. As for the inmates, all of them will be off quarantine, so they won't be masked. Standard covid questions to the volunteers. We had an orientation/appreciation event the end of last month and covered our expectations and protocols. Our procedures will run pretty much parallel with Nate's in Itasca.
