It was talked about briefly at the conference this week, but if anyone is willing to share what their PBT requirements are to be accepted into their jails, it would be greatly appreciated. Our policy is currently at 0.30 - which requires medical clearance and/or Detox.
Thanks!

at clay county, our policy is: 1. Intoxication over .30 needs medical clearance. Then go to detox dependent on circumstances. 2. Intoxication over .25 is a guideline for sending an arrestee to detox. Dependent on circumstances.

Becker policy is .25 and over needs medical clearance, or any number if deemed necessary by the on duty sergeant. Detox as deemed necessary, usually discussed with medical.

Olmsted County sends them to detox if they are over a 0.30. We may also send them if they are unable to care for themselves or are at a high risk for DTs.

Mower County is .25 and they will go to detox. If they are assaultive, no beds available (we confirm this with the facility) and DETOX won't take them we send them to the hospital for medical clearance. We have recently started a pre-booking sheet prior to them entering the facility as well , similar to that described by the attorney at the conference. When Possible out medical is present at the time of a new arrestee to complete the sheet but in there absence staff can as well. On the sheet there are distinct indicators that a person may need to be sent out even if they are sub .25.

Steele County use to go by .3, this number has dropped to .25 but also removed from policy. The PBT is used as 1 factor and we will make the determination with all of the other variables that fall into play, we all have delt with those special known frequent flyers that are functioning fully at .25. When this happens, it is up to the Sgt. or Cpl. for that day, generally they are denied, and law enforcement will take them to detox before we accept. The city and county officers are never happy when we deny someone, but for the safety of the inmate and getting the correct treatment as soon as possible is the main goal. We don't have medical around the clock, so we need to make that decision immediately and I'm sure other County's do the same. Obviously, the seasoned party is the one to watch out for because they will DT and become a medical nightmare for all involved.

Benton County will conduct PBT if knowledge or suspected Alcohol Use of any kind. .30 was the threshold to deny. We have Sgt. complete a 1 page about 20 questions, (Pre-Booking Medical and Intoxication Assessment Screening Form). If the arrestee shows or indicates any serious medical risk as witnessed or screened the Sgt. can refuse custody and have arresting officer get them cleared at ER 1st.
